Happiness is…

What makes the Drew tick, you may ask yourself… I’ve had a stretch of time to think about this lately, and I felt I should get it down on “paper”:

  • Reading – I finally picked up a book about a week ago and finished it last night.  I haven’t read a book since I rode the El train to work out in Rosemont.  Sad.  Need to start doing this more often.
  • Baseball – Live preferably, but TV works, too.  With friends.  Yelling at the players.
  • Traveling – So many places I want to go.  Europe (Germany/UK/Ireland), Tampa, Florida (to see Stick), Miami, Florida (Winter Music Conference in March), Arizona (to see Jen / Spring Training), Oakland, CA (to see the A’s play), but the ultimate would be Ibiza, Spain (a small island off the Southeast coast of Spain).
  • Going to see new DJ’s – I haven’t been to a club JUST to see the DJ in months.  The last time was probably Judge Jules in November of last year. *sigh* I have seen a couple since (DJ Rap, Christopher Lawrence @ Sound-Bar), but it wasn’t planned or as good.
  • Taking Pictures – It would be nice to have a bigger and better SLR digital camera & be able to take classes.  The photo gallery now has over 6500 pictures.
  • Sleep – I don’t get enough.  As I’m sitting here, it’s already 12:10 a.m. and I need to get up around 7:30 at least.  That’s not 8 hours.

Speaking of that… I’m going to bed.  I’ll probably add more to this list soon via post-editing.  More to come later…

iPhone Mania::GO!GO!GO! (Part Two)

Will the iPhone live up to all the hype? My vote is for yes. If you’re going to pay $500 (4GB) or $600 (8GB), you’re most likely expecting a quality product. Apple isn’t going to release an industry-altering device without doing plenty of beta testing and consumer polling. I’m sure Steve himself has burned one in for a good 2 months by now. Of course, that’s not to say that Apple hasn’t had a couple of flops.

Seriously… you gotta see this.

Transformers Trailer Time

Transformers Logo

Seriously, folks… the CGI that’s put into this new piece of filmwork is pretty freakin’ amazing. Check out the latest n’ greatest trailer here:

It sounds like there’s going to be a lot of the original, gen1 Autobots, but the Decepticons will be a mix of the gen1 and gen2 robots. THEY EVEN INCLUDED THE FUNKY TRANSFORMING SOUND! RULLLLEEEEEE! There’s no speaking by the robots in the trailer, but it’s going to be included in the movie… watch this to get that info and the robots that will be in the movie here:

Here’s a couple more if you need some background on the opposing forces:

OK… off to Madison for my cousin’s college graduation party. Talk to ya on Sunday or Monday!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Don’t you worry, I’ve already called mine today. The parentals had traveled to Charles City (20 miles away from Osage) at the noon hour to have some Dairy Queen. I was thinking about ice cream last night. Then Dave & Megan came back with some Baskin-Robbins from across the street a while ago. Hmmm… might have to go get some.

Looptopia occurred on Friday. MFchicago threw quite a big bash at the Sullivan Dock (formerly the Carson Pirie Scott store) where DJ Paul Johnson headlined. It was so packed in this loading dock area in an alley that they had to slow the music to tell people to scoot back. It was pretty crazy.

Rockford Citizen Influx & Retreat

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Wellllll… it’s Sunday.  It was a wild/wacky weekend with a LOT of activity.  What happened, you ask?  Let me try to outline quickly:

  • Did Keg Stands
  • Mary visited from the North Central section of Illinois
  • Ate @ Starfish
  • Attended Improv Olympic
  • Went to Cubs/Nats Game
  • Ate @ Bar Louie
  • Attended Beer on the Pier
  • Watched movies
  • Consumed wine, sparkling wine, light beer, dark beer, Zima, Jameson, Rumplemintz and a bunch of crazy good food.

So that happened.  I had fun and I hope Mary had a good time getting the Chicago tour.

Tomorrow:  back to the grind.  Closed a killer deal on Friday, so that made the weekend a pretty good deal.  Hope to get a couple more of those under my belt in the coming months, but we’ll see what happens.  There may be some crazy changes coming along in the business structure, so a shift in my position’s description may be imminent.

Anyway… bedtime.  Talk to you soon!

Hump _/\_ Day

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Ahhh Wednesday… you are so… “there”. I suppose? Halfway to the completion of the work week, yet still 2 1/2 days to go. Or 2. Whatever. ANYWAYZZ… this brings up important points. I’ve said “to Hell” with continuous posts regarding WTFOMGBBQ we did/are-doing/plan-on-doing over the course of every weekend and have changed the “Events” section to the WeekEnder℠ section. Yes, that’s a service mark. No, I’m probably NOT using it correctly. Bite me.

To make up for monotonous or redundant Horse_Hooey, I shall instead make you chucklez:

Well, yet another visit (#2 that I’m aware of) by Gabriel & Dresden to the Windy City that I was not able to attend.  This DJ’ing duo has had quite a few hits over the past years, including “Tracking the Treasure Down”, and “Dangerous Power”.  They’ve also done many remixes, including Dido, Jewel and Britney with additional tracks that have been produced under the names Motorcycle (“As The Rush Comes”) and Andain (“Beautiful Things”).  My currently favorite track under their long list of progressive trance hits is a remix of The Killers, “Read My Mind”.  Here’s a couple of good articles about the boys:

In other news, yet another bar in Chicago has been visited this last Friday.  Ta’Too in Lincoln Park was given a try with Greg & his friend Damon.  Nice place, pretty cute chicks were showing up and I got a good pic!  A trip to Sound-Bar ended the night, but no one special was spinning.

Saturday consisted of a visit to our living space by Dave’s parental units, whom we showed some of the city to upon bicycles.  Nothing much exciting after that.

Sunday was lazzzzzy daze.  Nada, other than Greg crashing for the evening to go to another assignment here in Chicago tomorrow.

Is that kinda like catch & release, where they put some form of RFID…??? nevermind.

So, I guess I have to write a blog with 10 weird, random things, facts or habits about myself. Now I’m not one to usually post such daft shite, but it’s for a pretty good cause (yes, she’s cute)…

1. I am a 31 year old male that grew up in a small-ish Iowa farming community (population 3,500), who REALLY likes house/trance/ambient music and HIGHLY dislikes country music. How odd is that?
2. I was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas (Go Razorbacks!), lived there until I was 3 or 4 years old, then lived in North Carolina, Mississippi and Wisconsin for brief stints until I moved to Iowa at 8 years old.
3. I like grape jelly on grilled cheese. TRY IT before you diss it.
4. I enjoy a yearly rowdy trip that spans the wondrous state of Iowa and I attempt to ride a bicycle for most some of it. RAGBRAI = (Des Moines) Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa <-click that link, then click this one for our team, too:

5. I’m not a fan of heavy metal and most hard rock, but I can’t get enough Nine Inch Nails.
6. I always felt like I had a fairly solid knowledge of the Great American Past-time (Baseball), but I found out a couple weekends ago that my 87 year-old Grandmother probably knows more player facts than I do!
7. I worked at Victoria’s Secret for approximately 12-13 months at the age of 20 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. No lie/joke/funny story. It was pretty money.
8. I do not own a car. Screw it. Why should I own one and spend another 700-800 a month (car payment, insurance, maintenance, gas, parking, city sticker, registration, etc.) on a car that I wouldn’t drive more than once a month at most? That being said… I’ll probably end up buying/leasing one soon *sigh*
9. I was the fastest kid in my grade… in 2nd grade. hahaha [Kids: don’t drink soda pop]
10. My dream vacation would be to spend 10-14 days basking in the sun on the white sand beaches of Ibiza, a small island off the south-east coast of Spain and just living up the culture & nightlife of the world’s centre for club music. One time I would like to see the sunset while sitting at Cafe del Mar…
